2004-01-29 - 4:58 p.m. she's talking in her sleep i was reminded recently that i laugh in my sleep. and apparently quite often. there is something really reassuring about that knowledge. it reminds me of what dr. whalen used to say about the fundamentally comic nature of the human story. when we can get enough distance from it, reality takes on a much less serious expression. it's troilus' response to his own tragedy... "heigh ho the holly, this life is most jolly; i'm nearly finished with the rene girard reader that has taken me a year and a half to read, and now that i'm standing at the end, with the back cover in sight, i'm a little sad it's over. it's been a while since i've been challenged and excited about anything i've read. though recently i was reminded of how much i love t.s. eliot. and apparently i cannot keep my appreciation from my face when i'm reading him because while i was browsing the collected works in b&n the other day, an older gentleman noticed and came over and started a conversation about how no one appreciates poetry anymore. you know you're a geek when you've got $25 to spend at a bookstore and you spend it on a latin phrase book. oh, well. i had the afternoon to myself while i pirated music, so i thought i'd write a bit. hope all is well out there. cheers
